Anyone used acupuncture for infertility treatments?
Hi,
I’m thinking of having acupuncture for my back and I wanted to know if any of you have used it for infertility. I’m doing medical treatments for that, but I’m curious about acupuncture. Did it work? What do they do, stick a needle in your ovaries?

I have read too many papers about people with infertility, desperate for treatment who go and try acupuncture and other alternative treatments to no avail.
The fact is it simply does not work, there is zero evidence it is effective and many of the people who practice acupuncture prey on people desperate for treatment. I wish it would it help but it can’t.
Acupuncture most definitely does not involve sticking a needle in ovaries. They just go a little bit into the skin, it is not bloody, it typically does not hurt (but it can be uncomfortable) or anything like that.
Try the medical treatments, it can take some time for them to work and there are more than one treatment for most problems so just because one thing does not work does not mean everything will fail.
When it comes to acupuncture for back pain there is some evidence it might help so I suppose it is worth doing if you really want to, especially if physiotherapy and medication have not helped.
But when you think about it does it sound even a little logical that sticking needles into skin will treat infertility?
Yes, Mathieu is correct. The overwhelming weight of evidence for acupuncture shows that it is a placebo treatment only. It will have no effect in terms of infertility.
