There is no question that acupuncture should be an important consideration and can be a viable therapy for treating your infertility. In some cases it is used as a stand-alone treatment and in others, in combination with herbs or modern approaches such as in vitro fertilization. It is a proven technique, demonstrated in a number of studies, and will continue to grow as a viable option in helping couples conceive. So acupuncture for infertility must certainly be considered as you move forward in your quest for a child.
Yes, I know it is hard to believe and you have every right to be skeptical. In the USA, acupuncture has always been considered “unscientific” and difficult to explain. Many in the medical field still have a hard time accepting it as a legitimate form of treatment for any ailment. However, the facts undeniably support its success in numerous health problems, including infertility. It’s simple, painless and you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Acupuncture has been around for a long time and was initiated in the East. It is a process in which thin needles are inserted into the skin and moved into certain points in the body, helping to alleviate pain and other medical conditions. Acupuncture is generally used to control blood pressure, because it stimulates the central nervous system. Endorphins are released into the body which relieve pain, which in returns gives your body a renewed feeling. Neurotransmitters and neurohormones are also released into your body; this process will help your body to heal on its own. This is the main reason acupuncture and infertility treatments were studied as a perfect corollary treatment pair. The body needs to be relaxed and the uterus has to be in a healthy state to accept and nourish the transplanted egg. When used together, acupuncture and infertility treatments can help treat hormonal balances. Increased blood flow to the vital organs and hormone levels become regulated making your overall body’s system effective. Also it improves ovarian and follicular function. The endometrium’s lining becomes thicker with higher blood flow. Acupuncture develops a higher rate for success of in vitro fertilization (IVF). More specialists are introducing acupuncture as part of their IVF treatments. IVF has shown a greater possibility of conceiving after the embryo transfer process when using acupuncture. Spasmed tubes can be treated with acupuncture; however blocked tubes cannot be treated using this method. Along with herbs, acupuncture is used to treat elevated follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), repeated pregnancy loss, unexplained infertility, luteal phase defect, hyperprolactinemia (when not caused by a prolactinoma), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) with irregular cycles, and male factor including men affected with sperm-DNA-fragmentation. Physical therapy and acupuncture carry the same attributes in that the body has the ability to heal itself over a period of time. Usually women are treated for three to four months prior to an insemination, IVF, or donor-egg transfer. Before and after embryo transfer, a woman should consider acupuncture treatments. There is more of a therapeutic effect the longer you participate in acupuncture before a fertility treatment. Fertility treatments are very stressful on the couple, more so for the woman. This can cause depression, anxiety and stress; however acupuncture can help reduce these issues. It is wise for a couple to try all aspects of infertility treatments, especially since acupuncture has such positive results.Risks are low with acupuncture mixed with infertility treatments; however if the incorrect points in the body are hit, it could result in a miscarriage in a pregnant woman. It is very important to make sure that the acupuncturist is skilled in fertility disorders. Electo-acupuncture is a wonderful choice over old fashioned pain medicines; this can also lessen your stay in the hospital and make your medical bills shrink. With the use of herbal medicine, acupuncture, and traditional medical interventions, researchers say that these are the most effective of all fertility treatments. Medical interventions are necessary for conception, acupuncture and herbal medicines alone are not enough.

I’m a 29yr old female and diagnosed with bilateral sacroiliitis… The pain is constant and unmanageable for me. I have been continuously to a chiropractor, physiotherapist who practises acupuncture. I have also been to an osteopath. I have been on anti inflammatories and pain killers for months. I don’t sleep for more than an hour at a time, because as soon as I move the pain is enough to wake me. I use heat creams, heat packs, warm baths, ice packs, sleeping with pillows between my knees, I don’t sit for long periods, no lifting, minimal bending, I had a week of rest off work, but to not much relief. I bent over and emptied the dishwasher and almost immediately pain returned. I had some relief from the acupuncture as it releases the tense muscles I have in my lower back, buttocks and thighs, but the pain returns or the acupuncture is ‘undone’ with 24 hours or so… I am the process of trying to get an appointment to have CT guided cortisone injection, which I am not that keen on, (I have heard stories about infertility, its lack of effectiveness, weight gain… INFO ANYONE???) I may have to wait 3 months, but I don’t know where to turn. I’m too young for this and it is affecting my entire life. I’ve become a burden/bother to my family, boyfriend, lost friends because after I struggle through a day at work I cannot manage to socialise without extreme determination and self convincing that I can which is exhausting in itself. I can’t manage to spend a few hours walking around a shopping centre or sit down in the movie theatre comfortably. Play with my puppy, do my housework etc. I cannot perform my job properly (I manage a liquor store, a lot of heavy lifting, moving, bending, kneeling which lead to my sacroiliitis). I seem to be rambling. It is so hard to get anybody to understand the pain I’m in 99% of the time; I have very little time without it… I am wondering if anybody out there has found anything to relieve their pain and discomfort. Even the tiniest ‘tricks’ they use for relief. Or what treatment has worked the best? I really would like to discuss this further and hear other experiences.
My true hope is that I can get back to full living/working/functioning capacity, and get back to being the fit and happy fun loving person I was 6 months ago.
I’m sorry for rattling on, but I have needed to let this all out (I feel better just doing so!)
Thanks Brie, Australia
Thanks for listening/reading… Hope to hear from someone….

Okay ladies.. tell me what your infertility process was like. Did you use any medications, if so what ? What test did you do, blood work, ultra sounds, etc?
Here is why I ask. I have been TTC for over a year, my blood work all looks great, husbands sperm count is great. I have acupuncture once a week by a infertility specialist. I eat good, took a step down at work to minimize stress. So far there is no medical reason to my wait.
My health Ins does NOT cover anything, so I need some knowledge as to what test i can ask for and or expect. What Meds (clomid) can I talk to my Dr about? I need to maximize my time and money. I am going a specialist at 250 bucks a visit. This can add up quick, please give me some advise.
and yes, I am ovulating every month.

Okay please don’t say SEX… I already know that helps but my partner is ” too stressed” and my whole pregnancy he has only had sex with me 6 times! ( I’m not happy about that! )
Next let me say castor oil is not an option for other reasons.
I’ve been walking 20min to several hours every day!
