I. Definition
Phrase IV- menstruation phrase occurs (about 3-5 days), if there is no conception taken place, the yang energy drops, causing the shedding of the uterus lining, the liver transforms yang energy back to yin at the beginning of the phrase. The menstrual discharge is bright red and profuse and only lasts between 3 – 5 days ( spotting does not count).
I will continue to provide more information which contributes to the causes of abnormal menstrual cycle, including prolonged and shortened phrases in each phrase and how you can cure them. The aim of this series is to provide the information of how you can modify your menstrual cycle for easy conception. I believe, it is helpful for women diagnosed with the unexplained causes of infertility or any women who would like to stop symptoms of menstruation disorders.

A. Tonifying liver qi
1. With Chinese herbs
a) Chen Pi (tangerine peel)
Chen pi is Spleen and kidney tonic herb. It presentation besides improves the Spleen qi function moving downward, thereby, reducing spleen stagnation causes of abdominal distention, fullness, bloating and digestive disorder, it also increases of the function to dry dampness, thus decreasing the kidney congestion, leading to coughs with stifling sensation in the chest.

In Traditional Chinese medicine, when the egg is extruded into fallopian tube, liver transform yin energy to yang that triggers the yang ( progesterone) phrase. At this phrase, blood and qi move down ward, the uterus lining becomes softer in preparing for the implantation of the fertilized egg, if occurs. In conventional medicine, at this phrase corpus luteum starts to produce progesterone that triggers the softening of uterus lining for fertilized egg implantation.
Shortened luteal phrase may interfere with endometrial lining readiness for egg implantation.
I. Causes
1. Yang deficiency
a) Kidney yang deficiency
Although yang is sub-dominant in the yin phrase, it is also required to balance the dominant yin in production of the follicles, if for what ever reason yang is too weak, it will causes ovaries do not respond well to the FSH, leading to inadequate follicle development, resulting in poor follicle formation or corpus luteum does not persist as long as it should or the uterine lining failure to develop properly.

The length of yang or luteal phrase is about 12 -14 days and a third phrase of the menstrual cycle according to traditional Chinese medicine. It is the time when the egg is extruded into fallopian tube, as liver transform yin energy to yang energy. At this phrase, blood and qi move down ward, the endometrial lining becomes softer to prepare the implantation of the fertilized egg, if occurs.
In conventional medicine, at this phrase corpus luteum starts to produce progesterone that triggers the softening of endometrial lining for fertilized egg implantation.
If in the yang energy is deficient, it will cause the drop of BBT temperature that affects the chance of fertility.

Cold uterus is defined as a condition of not enough yang and blood to warm the uterus that interferes not only the function of uterine lining in fertilized egg implantation, but also causes miscarriage if the egg already implants in endometrial lining in the uterus.
