We’re going on 14 months of TTC. I started acupuncture treatments two weeks ago and I’m curious to see if anyone out there has any success stories with acupuncture treatments for infertility?

I’ve been going once weekly and the Dr. recommended 10 weeks. The first treatment was $75 and additional are $55 so I’m not sure that I’d actually complete the 10 weeks.

A number of reasons have been shown how acupuncture influences the results of in-vitro fertilization or IVF. In conjunction with modern IVF therapy acupuncture, as a complementary therapy, is becoming more and more common. Studies has shown that acupuncture helps patients’ better respond to medication as well as improving pregnancy rates and resulting in healthier eggs. In April 2002, a German scientific study showed a much higher clinical pregnancy rate in women undergoing both acupuncture and IVF treatment compared to those receiving IVF without acupuncture (42.5% versus 26.3%). The results of the study stunned a scientific community often skeptical of natural fertility treatment methods, and researchers quickly tried to test the results to see if they were replicable or not. They were, and numerous additional scientific studies have confirmed that acupuncture and IVF when used simultaneously leads to much higher pregnancy outcomes.

One of the most recent and comprehensive studies of acupuncture and IVF was done in 2008 and published in the the British Medical Journal. This study involved over 1300 women in seven different randomized and controlled studies testing the acupuncture and IVF link. published a study involving seven controlled and randomized studies of 1366 women. As with the German study, women who used both acupuncture and IVF demonstrated a much higher success rate (65%) conceiving, and an even greater rate (91%) in terms of bringing the pregnancy to term.

The heartbreak and unspoken disappointment that goes hand in hand with infertility is something that most people will never understand. You are hesitant to even share with most people that you and your significant other are having this problem…not so much out of embarrassment but more because there really is nothing positive that someone might be able to say to you.

 You are sick of hearing that you should relax and that once you stop trying you’ll get pregnant. You don’t want to hear about adoption or about someone’s cousin who had the same problem. None of this helps or gives you hope. You spend time searching for an answer and every month you hope and pray with everything that you have that you could just get pregnant and have a child of your own. Your pain is only amplified by stories of abuse and neglect against children. You wonder why it is so easy for others to have children that they don’t even want yet you desire nothing more than to love and care for a baby of your own.
